Summer Lab

Preston Hollow Presbyterian School offers summer clinical instruction for children entering grades Kindergarten through 6th on a semi-private tutorial basis. Individual attention is given to each child in a working ratio of no more than four students per teacher. A remedial program is tailored to meet the individual needs of each child. This program may include instruction in readiness skills, reading, spelling, language arts, perceptual-motor skills, grammar, handwriting, study skills, creative writing and math. Each Summer Lab Session meets for 1.5 hrs. five days a week for four weeks.

The cost of Summer Lab is $660 for the four-week session.

Summer Enrichment Sessions: June 6-17th or June 20th-July 1

In addition to Summer Lab, we will also offer various enrichment classes to help build a full and exciting day for each student. Each enrichment class will run for two weeks. Enrichment options include art, music, math skills, sports, and classic novel studies. All enrichments will not be offered for both sessions. Please note dates and times when registering.

The cost of Enrichment is $300 for each two-week session

Math Enrichment: 1st-3rd Grade

Mrs. Gibbons, a PHPS math specialist, is offering an opportunity for small group math remediation and enrichment. This class will include an introduction to the four operations, place value, and number sense within 20.  This two-week class is open to students entering grades 1-3, and the classes are 90 minutes a day. If your child has summer math assignments to complete, please send those materials to class each day in addition to any login information needed for online assignments. Computers will be available if needed for completion of math assignments; however, students will not be able to use computers for AR tests during this math class.

Math Enrichment: 4th-6th Grade

Mrs. Guion, the PHPS Math Coordinator, is offering an opportunity for small group math remediation and/or enrichment. These two-week classes are open to students entering grades 4 – 6, and the classes are 90 minutes a day. If your child has summer math assignments to complete, please send those materials to class each day in addition to any login information needed for online assignments. Computers will be available if needed for completion of math assignments; however, students will not be able to use computers for AR tests during class.

Art Camp: 2nd-5th Grade

Preston Hollow Presbyterian School Art Teacher, Mrs. Burns, will create art with students entering grades 2-5. The first week of camp will include outer-space art, and the second will focus on animal creation. Students will use mediums such as paint, celluclay (instant papier-mâché), tooling metals, collage, clay and drawing utensils to create beautiful works of art.

The goal of summer art enrichment is that your child leaves the camp having enjoyed the creative process. They will feel confident and proud of their finished pieces and will have experienced different art mediums they may have never used before. Above all, we want students to surprise both you and themselves with how much they learned! There are only 12 spots available and placement is first come, first serve!

 

All Sports Camp: 1st-5th Grade    

Join Coach Rosen for a fun-filled sports camp this summer! Each camp lasts 1.5 hours a day and provides wonderful opportunities for enrichment and recreation. Students learn team-building and kinesthetic skills through a variety of games including various sports and creative movement. Be prepared for exercise and fun! Sports Camp is open to students entering grades 1-5 and is scheduled for either 8:00-9:30, or 9:30-11:00 each day. 

Minecraft: 2nd-5th Grade

Join Coach Green and your friends to play Minecraft! This 2-week camp will be 1.5 hours each day and provides an opportunity to boost creativity, improve hand-eye coordination, enhance problem-solving skills, and collaborate with peers. Each student must provide his/her own iPad for use during the camp. Students should be aware of any passcodes required to use their devices. Other sites or apps will not be permitted for use during this time. Minecraft Camp is open to students entering grades 2-5, and is scheduled for 11:00-12:30 each day.

Literacy Games and More: 3rd-4th Grade                                                                                                                      

PHPS Reading Specialist Michelle Aguilar is thrilled to offer a 2- week enrichment session where children will enjoy an assortment of literacy games. Students will have the opportunity to work and play together as valuable reading skills are reviewed and applied in an encouraging environment. Students will also strengthen cooperative social skills as they play and learn these games together. PHPS students will have the opportunity to take AR tests at the beginning of each session. This camp will be offered two times. For students entering grades 3 & 4.

PHPS Reading Specialist Michelle Aguilar is thrilled to offer a 2- week enrichment session where children will enjoy an assortment of literacy games. Students will have the opportunity to work and play together as valuable reading skills are reviewed and applied in an encouraging environment. Students will also strengthen cooperative social skills as they play and learn these games together. PHPS students will have the opportunity to take AR tests at the beginning of each session. This camp will be offered two times. For students entering grades 5 & 6.

Phonics Camp: 3rd-5th Grade                                                                                                                      

This two-week session is led by PHPS Reading Specialist Mrs. Hatch who is a dyslexia specialist and a Certified Academic Language Therapist. She has been specially trained and has more than 15 years of experience in this area. This enrichment opportunity is a two-week phonics program for students entering grades 3rd – 5th in which students will strengthen the phonics and decoding skills necessary to improve their overall confidence in reading and enhance fluency.

 Phonics Camp: 3rd-5th Grade                                                                                                                     

This two-week session is led by PHPS Reading Specialist Mrs. Hatch who is a dyslexia specialist and a Certified Academic Language Therapist. She has been specially trained and has more than 15 years of experience in this area. This enrichment opportunity is a two-week phonics program for students entering grades 3rd – 5th in which students will strengthen the phonics and decoding skills necessary to improve their overall confidence in reading and enhance fluency.

Classic Novel Study: 3rd-4th Grade                                                                                                                                                                                     

This two-week session is led by PHPS Reading Specialist Mrs. Aguilar, who is a dyslexia specialist and a Certified Academic Language Therapist. This opportunity will focus on the classic novel Black Beauty for students entering grades 3 & 4. Students will read and study the novel together during the 90- minute session. Skill emphasis will include comprehension, vocabulary, and literary elements. There will also be activities connected to the book as well as assistance with various book project requirements if needed.

Classic Novel Study: 5th-6th Grade                                                                                                                     

This two-week session is led by PHPS Reading Specialist Mrs. Hatch, who is a dyslexia specialist, and a Certified Academic Language Therapist. This opportunity will focus on the Classic Starts novel White Fang for students entering grades 5 & 6. Students will read and study the novel together during the 90- minute session. Skill emphasis will include comprehension, vocabulary, and literary elements. There will also be activities connected to the book as well as assistance with various book project requirements if needed.

Classic Novel Study: 5th-6th Grade                                                                                                                   

This two-week session is led by PHPS Reading Specialist Mrs. Aguilar, who is a dyslexia specialist, and a Certified Academic Language Therapist. This opportunity will focus on an exciting novel for students entering grades 5 & 6. Students will read and study the novel together during the 90- minute session. Skill emphasis will include comprehension, vocabulary, and literary elements. There will also be activities connected to the book as well as assistance with various book project requirements if needed.

Classic Novel Study: 3rd-4th Grade                                                                                                                                     

This two-week session is led by PHPS Reading Specialist Mrs. Hatch, who is a dyslexia specialist, and a Certified Academic Language Therapist. This opportunity will focus on the Classic Starts novel Treasure Island for students entering grades 3 & 4. Students will read and study the novel together during the 90- minute session. Skill emphasis will include comprehension, vocabulary, and literary elements. There will also be activities connected to the book as well as assistance with various book project requirements if needed.

Fluency Reader's Theater: 3rd-6th Grade                                                                                                             

This two-week session is led by PHPS Reading Specialist Mrs. Hatch who is a dyslexia specialist, and a Certified Academic Language Therapist. Each day, students will enjoy listening to traditional and non-traditional stories. They will then choose a tale (or two!) to bring to life as they create their own props and have fun acting out the stories with their classmates. Reader's Theater will help increase fluency and vocabulary knowledge while also strengthening confidence in public speaking skills. This enrichment is for students entering grades 3-6.
