Overview

Preston Hollow Presbyterian School was founded in 1962 as a community outreach ministry of the Preston Hollow Presbyterian Church. It is a coeducational private day school for students of average or above intelligence (ages 5-12) who, due to identified learning differences, are not able to perform in a regular classroom at a level commensurate with their measured ability. There are discrepancies between their potential and their actual academic and overall school performance. Each year we enroll 118 students in thirteen classes. Ours is a non-profit school to which students are accepted without regard to race, sex, religion or national origin.

Mission Statement

Our mission is to provide a caring and vital learning community for bright, learning different children and their parents. Our dedicated faculty and staff strive to provide a nurturing, highly personalized environment which cherishes and supports children while challenging them to achieve their full potential. We strive to promote maximum intellectual and academic growth in our students by identifying their learning style, celebrating and building on their strengths and gifts, remediating their learning weaknesses, and teaching them compensating skills. It is our belief and expectation that all of our students will be contributing members of their school community and that they will conduct themselves with a high level of citizenship which includes honesty, tolerance, compassion, service and responsibility. We want to instill in our students the joy of learning, the value of self-discipline, and the rewards of giving their best effort to each and every endeavor. Through our success-oriented, supportive environment, we work to enhance our students' self-esteem, self-knowledge, and self-confidence. We are committed to maximizing each student's potential and performance and returning them to the mainstream of education as quickly as possible with all the tools they need to have a happy successful experience and a strong academic future.

Admissions

Director meets with parents and reviews required recent diagnostic testing and past school records. Child must present with IQ of 95 or above; identified learning differences and behavior and motivation in keeping with expectation of school. Parents who are interested in pursuing admission and whose child meets the preliminary admissions criteria then schedule an appointment for their child to meet with the Director. A classroom visit is sometimes scheduled. A final decision on the student's acceptance is then made. Dependent on available space, he is then enrolled or placed on the waiting list. We begin scheduling admission proceedings for the fall in the previous late January.

For questions about admissions or to schedule an appointment, please contact the school office at 214-368-3886 or by email.

Extracurricular Opportunities

An "after school" sports program is available to 5th and 6th grade boys and girls. Activities include fall soccer, winter basketball, and a spring track and field meet.

Depending on the availability of parent helpers, Cub Scouts is available for boys.

The 6th grade takes an annual four day trip to Mo Ranch to participate in an Environmental Leadership Program.

Other opportunities include a chess club and choir.
